Commercial Structure Fire on Garden Road in Monterey County

The Monterey Fire Department responded to an unconfirmed commercial structure fire at 7:00 a.m. on May 29, 2024, at 2560 Garden Road in Monterey, California. While responding, the incident was upgraded to a full structure fire response based on the report of smoke from the building. Upon arrival, crews found smoke showing from the roof of the structure as well as the interior of the structure. With an aggressive fire attack, fire crews were able to locate the fire in the attic and extinguish the fire and minimize the spread. Crews remained on scene for salvage and overhaul. No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported.

A total of 20 fire personnel, led by the Monterey Fire Department, responded including four (4) engines, one (1) ladder truck, and two (2) Division Chiefs from Monterey Fire Department and City of Seaside Fire Department. The American Medical Response (AMR) and PG&E also responded.

The building sustained moderate fire and structural damage with an initial estimated loss set at approximately $100,000. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, but not considered suspicious.
